Well, 134 in the short term certainly will cost more. I have a friend that did it for his 89 900. I dont think it cost him *too* much more $.
Certainly in the long term it will make things cheaper and easier to work with. If you have to replace alot of the old components anyway, it certainly makes more sense to do the upgrade. I guess it depends on what they tell you. I would be surprised if many components needed replacement in the existing system, but I'm no AC expert.
I did remove ALL the AC components in my old '81 900 (during the major car swap/rebuild experience). I was able to just bolt the old AC onto the new car (the '82T), took it to a shop, and had them fill the system with coolant. I never had any leaks or problems with it in the '82T. I think the charging cost me around $100, but again, I didn't have to replace any hoses or components.
