I painted mine in 1980 and the paint has adhered very well. I sanded the whole car to scuff up the paint, filled the low/bad spots, and lightly sanded between coats. I used a standard R&M automotive lacquer, Camaro Red. The only thing I would do differently would be to remove the door glass outer seals and paint under them. I did lift them up for painting, but I was not totally happy with the result. You can check out pictures I have posted on this site. Oh yes, use a good primer/sealer first before the color coat.
