Hey great news. Greetings from Australia!! Your lighting problem sounds simple (I hope) have a look under he hood and you will see on the rod that pops the headlights there is a bracket that operates a micro-switch. I'd say the bracket needs moving slightly so that when you let go of the lever and it relaxes a bit it still applies pressure to the switch. My car has a plate with a hose clamp for adjustment, not sure if that is normal. I also suspect the headlight lever arms could use a bit of adjustment if they are relaxing when you let go of the rod handle, but its prob not worth it. Just fiddle with the actuation plate. The switch itself could be faulty, I bought an Ashcraft one but if yo ugo to a good electrical supplier of switched they may have what you want.
I got to drive my series 3 to work today - Yay too much demand on cars at home with a visiting daughter - it certainly wasn't a burden.
