Have not posted for a long time. I rebuilt a 1700 engine and put it in my 68 (which I've had for over 40 years) about 5 years ago but had problems with clutch chatter and a problem with 4th not staying in. I replaced all the bushings and messed with linkage but no luck so its been sitting for the last 4 years. I semiretired last year so thought I'd give at least one more go at it. I yanked the engine last week and while looking under the top cover and running it through the gears I discovered a bolt attaching the bellhouseing was limiting the fork movement for 4th gear. Hope that problem is solved. After the discovery I read in one of my books that this could happen. Wish I had seen that 5 years ago. I removed the clutch and everything looks pretty good. The disk looks good and no more than a .003 difference measuring off the the rivets. Pressure plate and flywheel are very smooth. When reassembling I decided I should read one of my manuals. I read for installing the disk "its longer splined hub is toward the flywheel". This is opposite of the way it was. If this is correct I'm surprised it worked at all. My other books did not address the direction of the disk so I am seeking verification before I reassemble. Thank for any input.
