What could cause a sharply bent pushrod?

Overrevving as mentioned, or more likely a valve seized in the guide.

Is this 1500 open deck or closed deck(1969) It was late so have not pulled the heads off yet to check?

'69 should be closed deck if original.

Is it better to rebuild a 1700cc engine as opposed to the 1500? I have a 1700 cc engine sitting on the garage floor with cracked piston. I t is perhaps seized as well for it has been sitting there for over 12 years!

No opinion, they are both rated the same in HP. 1500 is blue, 1700 is black, originally. If you intend on hopping up the engine, one may be preferred but I don't know which.

Is the power of the 1700 much more than the 1500? I would simply like to rebuild this one, as it is on the stand already.

any advice to freeing the engine? I was going to purchase the mystery oil, take off the heads and pour it in cylinders-or is it best to remove oil pan, turn engine upside down and pour beneath?

No difference. Pull the pan, pour in the magic juice right-side-up, now you can see if it runs out the bottom. If so, you might have a chance of something. If not, you can start from the other end. Regardless, even if you get unstuck, there is ring and cylinder corrosion that make it very unlikely that it will work well for very long. Marvel Mystery Oil or Seafoam are the most popular products, between them I have no opinion. You could try both in different holes.
