Hood Stuck Shut

When replacing the clutch slave in my '74, one of the items I removed was my plastic coolant overflow tank. I attached the tank with a bracket to one of the bolts right next to the hood catch. Long story short, when I put the tank back, I somehow but the metal bracket back in the wrong place. When I try to open the hood with the release handle, it's stuck solid. After 4 hours of wrenching, trying to stick my hands through the small openings for the steering rod on both sides I have called it quits for the day.
I can see that my metal bracket for the expansion tank it interfering with the latch mechanism, but can't for the life of me get a socket or wrench on it. I thought about taking the whole front end off, but that won't work since you need to undo the very bolts I'm trying to get at (the two bolts on either side of the engine lid lock mechanism).
Any thoughts? Thank you.
Kevin
