Ball joint bolt Posted by Craig K [Email] (#1834) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Craig K) on Sun, 6 Dec 2015 14:44:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Was headed to a Toyz 4 Totz car show 60 miles away in Wickenburg AZ when my lower ball joint dropped out of the control arm. Luckily I had just stopped at a light and was doing about 20 in 2nd gear. Ten min later I would have been doing 60 on the highway. The retaining bolt was still in place and tight. Inspection showed a flat spot where the non threaded part ended.I replaced these bolts several years ago and my first mistake was not using one with a long enough non threaded section.I also suspect that I may have used a metric bolt that might be just slightly smaller than the original.I believe it should be an SAE bolt.It seems to be a little looser than it should be. So my question is what is the proper size and grade of the correct bolt. Thanks for any response
