Maybe not completely coincidence... with a little lubrication maybe the connector can assemble & seat everything together properly.
Dielectric grease is an insulator, but it also doesn't form a tenacious insulating film. Meaning the actual electrical connection can easily push the grease aside & make contact. That makes it good for electrical connections but it makes it a bad choice for something like wheel bearings.
