Transmission Rebuild Posted by Richard Dee [Email] (#2272) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Richard Dee) on Thu, 16 Aug 2018 09:44:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 1973 silver and blue Sonett III that I recently purchased in Florida on ebay... the one where the owners welded in a lot of new sheet metal...my Weber choke questions and AGM battery questions are posted separately.
The transmission in this car is terrible.,,, makes all kinds of noise.... I can coax it around town for short trips but it needs to be rebuilt/replaced soon. I have a spare transmission that Jack Ashcraft rebuilt for me back in the eighties for my 1974 yellow Sonett, but I stored that car and never used the transmission.
So I might put the Jack Ashcraft rebuild in the blue car and rebuild the take-out. I know Mark Ashcraft rebuilds them too, and has a pretty quick turn around. However I was wondering if any of you have rebuilt your own transmissions?
How hard was it? Can you do it without a lot of special tools?
I once rebuilt a Renault Dauphine transmission with reasonable success so thought I might try this one just for fun
Thanks,
Richard in SC
