I've posted earlier on this problem. I installed a new clutch & pressure plate from Ashcraft. His installation instructions state that the face of the release ring should extend out 1/8" from the surface of the pressure plate. Ashcraft's cure is to install 0.030" spacers between the flywheel & pressure plate, and to break apart the pressure plate and add spacers to increase spring pressure. My release ring was slightly recessed, but I reasoned that with wear it would come out.
After adding abut 4,000 miles and still having the disengagement issue, and after playing with different thickness shims at the rear of the slave cylinder and adjusting free play, I finally threw in the towel and pulled the engine and inserted 0.030" wave washers between flywheel and pressure plate, which did in fact bring out the release ring to about 1/8th inch. Took a chance and left the flywheel alone. No problem with clutch slippage at all. All back together and problem totally solved though after much time and bother, as is typical with the Sonett II's.
