One word of caution Chaz and other Saabers, mouse droppings may contain Hantaviruses. Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a deadly disease transmitted by infected rodents through urine, droppings, or saliva. Humans can contract the disease when they breathe in aerosolized virus. So, DO NOT stir up dust by sweeping up or vacuuming up droppings, urine or nesting materials. Put on latex rubber gloves and thoroughly wet contaminated areas with detergent or another liquid to deactivate the possible virus containing waste. (Most general purpose disinfectants and household detergents are effective.) A hypochlorite solution prepared by mixing 1 and 1/2 cups of household bleach in 1 gallon of water may be used in place of commercial disinfectant. (When using the chlorine solution, avoid spilling the mixture on clothing or other items that may be damaged.)
Once everything is wet, take up contaminated materials with a damp towel, then mop or sponge the area with disinfectant.
HPS was first recognized in 1993 and has since been identified throughout the United States. Although rare, HPS is potentially deadly!!!
I also had a mouse nest in my 71 Sonett, which sat in a garage for nine years before I bought it. It was in the driver's side vent (so you might imagine that when the fan was blowing I was being exposed to the possibility of contracting Hantaviruses) and I did not notice it until I had driven the car for a year!
