henri, you are right that the FOMOCO is not the same as used on the 71-73 Pinto/Capri 1.6L carburetors. I believe that the Saab's Fomoco is a Eruopean carb, unlike the North American types. However they are close and you can use the same rebuild kits on the FOMOCOs. You can use; Borg Warner # 10362A, Niehoff # CK 489A, Standard Motor Products # 547A, Motorcraft # CT-227-B. (DIFZ-9A586-C). Fits 1971-73 Ford 1600cc & 2000cc (98” & 122”), 1971-72 Mercury 1600cc, 1969-70 Cortina 1600cc, 1971-74 Saab 1698cc, # FO-1K (MS489A) Fits 1971-72 Ford Capri 1600cc, 1969-70 Ford Cortina 1600cc and 1971-72 Saab, Sonett 95/96/97 (with SU type carburetor) Some of the lesser parts (manifold gasket, power valve, etc.) do not work and are as you say the wrong size. But all is not lost... You can make your own gaskets or find another application which will do the trick. For example,
Carburetor Base Gasket (FOMOCO 1250): Use Victor Reinz G26834 (1976-1980 Volkswagen 1457 cc or 1588cc, 4cyl.) I've been able to keep my Sonetts on the road with the little FOMOCO and one day one will have a bigger appetite.
