As many of us have found there is'nt much room to work within the engine compartment of a Sonett III or V-4. Perhaps the V-4 setup has an advantage or two over the fixed nose of the III but my experience with working on the III is that removing the nose really does not provide that more access. I have removed and installed the altenator, starter, water pump, brake master, clutch master ,etc without the need to wrestle removing and installing the nose as well. And although I was not broken down at the side of the road a the time with a good selection of tools at my side there have been no problems. In fact I've only had to remove the nose once and that was to remove and install the engine and transaxle. You may be able to tilt your head a little more to see what you are doing or bend your arm at a lesser angle by removing the nose but that's it. Saying this I have another Sonett III that has been modifided (head lights glassed over) and I am planning to modify the nose so that the top section can be removed leaving both the grill area and lower valance inplace. This will provide better access for keeping the engine bay clean and will save a little time not having to wrestle with removing brackets, alignment, wiring, etc.
