No need to apologize, those of us who have been involved with Saab for awhile (in my case, only since 1982) and have tracked terminology just assume everyone else understands stuff. Wait until you try to understand MAF or MBTA!
Vert is simply convertible. Linear and Arc are just model lines, with different mechanical features and trim levels, which don't apply in 2007. For 2007, which is where your involvement with Saab starts, there are only two 9-3 models: 2.0T [2 litre, 4 cylinder, turbo] and Aero [six cylinder, turbo, kick ass].
My personal opinion is that these are fantastic vehicles: amazingly safe; exceptional fuel economy given the performance level, even the 2.0T is really quick in real world driving situations; less refined, and less a pure driving experience, than some of the competition; and one of the best price/performance values available.
Saabs have a reputation for less than stellar reliability. There are a few bad apples that come off the line (my first '93 900 backed itself under my garage door at 3:00 am) but if you treat them right (regular maintenance, pay attention to what they're telling you) they will give you hundreds of thousands of miles of very enjoyable service.
