The dealer claimed that the used module is not able to be updated the same way as a "blank" one provided from the factory would be. They said that they did everything that they could but that outside of purchasing a new ECU, they would not be able to guarantee any kind of compatibility issues.

I have my doubts that they knew what they were doing. Have you successfully SPS'd a used ECU like this? It doesn't sound like I'll be able to eliminate the CEL without a competent Tech II operator. This dealer has already failed and the only local indie that I know of told me that they do not have the correct techII module for the 2007 2.8t.

I may be better off trying to find someone to repair the pins on my old ECU. The tech at the dealership did tell me that they did not de-program or divorce that ECU and that I should be able to re-add it at any time without any additional programming.

It's times like this that I really wish we had a free/cheap tech II alternative.
