I'll start off by saying congratulations, and get your sleep now before the baby comes. My other babies have been neglected once we became parents as they take up most of my free time. Wouldn't change a thing though.
We have 16 month old twin girls and it's been a challenge getting two seats into the back of our 9-3SS. We brought the girls home using a pair of Cybex Aton's which we loved. We only had to move the seat forward just a hair. In my '99 9-3 I put the bases in the middle and behind the passenger so I could put the seat all the way back and recline as much as I wanted, but the girls rarely got to drive in my OG 9-3.
At 12 months they reached the height limit of the Aton so we were looking again. We received a Diono Rainier as a Christmas gift and it is super easy getting the kids in/out, but it just took up too much space even with the angle adjuster. It fit in the middle, but it was very uncomfortable behind any of the front seats. We picked up a Combi Coccorro and it fit so well behind the passenger seat we bought a second. We placed it in the middle, but it can easily fit behind the driver with the seat all the way back. The Coccoro is a small seat and will take us to ~2.5 years so the Diono will get used again in the 9-3SS when the girls go forward facing.
The center of the back seat is the safest for the car seat so don't feel obligated to put the car seat behind the passenger. The only drawback is that you can't use LATCH in the center.
