My wife's 2003 9-3 with 130k started acting up yesterday as she was attempting to leave work--no start due to locked ISM--(can not turn the key to start car (with a Steering Lock message).
I drove out to see by chance if I could get it running, and was able to get her car started by disconnecting/reconnecting the battery for a few minutes. We then drove the car home. Once home, we turned off the car and then immediately attemped to restart it, but the ISM was locked up again. But, after disconnecting/reconnecting the battery it started up. After some research on this board, it seems that replacing the ISM "should" fix the issue, or be the first step to rectify the problem. So the question begs to be asked--could a weak battery be the root of this problem or just compound a faulty ISM? Her battery is "older", and the car was not driven for a week during a 0-10 degree cold snap here in the Northeast while her blower motor did not work (been a rough patch with the car).
Thanks for reading this post and your thoughts!
