Rain sensor repair kit Posted by magalar [Email] (#1325) [Profile/Gallery] (more from magalar) on Wed, 4 Dec 2019 20:25:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi everyone,
When the shop replaced my windshield last year, they did not reinstall the rain sensor correctly. Since the shop is quite a bit far from here, I seeked another solution. Used sensors are all broken like mine, meaning the gel pad is now separated from the sensor. With the part number found on the sensor, I found that Opel has a TSB for this sensor, and Opel propose a repair kit including the proper gel pad (a canted square shaped pad) and some two-part ultra-clear silicone stuff in a syringe.

Our sensor in this document is "Type 2". See page 3, 12, 15 and 19 (our sensor is the one for the Vectra C: 93178787).

New Saab/Opel/Bosch sensor : 93178787 https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/150188/Rain-Sensor-93178787/
Old destroyed sensor : https://www.proxyparts.com/car-parts-stock/information/part-number/13107803/part/rain-sensor/partid/6610692/
Beware, almost all used sensors are like this one, without the gel pad. Useless.
I was not able to order the Opel kit, but I found an equivalent in UK.
The kit for our Saabs is 13360169 from PMA Tools
https://eshop.pma-tools.com/en/Sensor-technique/SensorTack/SensorTack-Ready-Plus/SensorTack-Ready-Plus-Combination-kit-Type-3-4-13.html
Price is 50 GBP, including shipping to Canada. Job is quite easy to do, just remove the old gel pad, use the silicone syringe to fill the old sensor surface, apply the new gel pad, and that's it. Beware not to leave bubbles between the pad and the silicone.
I ordered it from Rejel on eBay.

50 GPB is not cheap, but since the sensor is 204 US$ (413 $CA), it's a huge saving. My insurer agreed to pay for the kit, even if the repair is more than a year old.
That's it, one saved Rain sensor!
