Axel removal, transmission shot? Posted by Michel_DDO [Email] (#2328) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Michel_DDO) on Sat, 30 May 2020 20:10:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 93 2006 auto.
I had noise when I steered the car to the right so I changed the left wheel bearing, still had the noise.
Wanted to change the right wheel bearing (I has bought both of them at the same time) but couldn't remove the axel.
Tried another time with a puller with no success.
Read a post of someone removing first the axel ant then work the bearing out.
Did that today, disconnected all connection to the hub. To remove the axel from the intermediary bearing, I just took socket extension and with three gentle tap got it out (it was pretty easy).
I was able to get the bearing free but the axel was still stuck in it. I decided then to go to a garage. They put the hub/axel/bearing in a press but they were not able get the axe free. I had removed the three wheel bearing bolts and they said to come back on monday with the bolts and they didn't have time to do it today.
So came back to the car installing everything back where they should be.
When installing the tire bolts, I noticed that the tire was freely rotating even if the car was on Park!!
The rubber boot closer to the wheel was twisting even if the joint closer to the transmission was not.
Removed everything again, got the axel out, played with the joint closer to the wheel and I could hear some clink and clunk.
Tried to put the joint aligned and put back axel and everything else.
Started the car, transmission on park and the car was moving down hill, had to put the brakes
Tried to put on drive and there was strange noise and the car wouldn't go forward at all. It is like it was in neutral.
I agree that my axel may be shot but I don't understand why my transmission will behave like that unless it is shot. :-(
Thanks!
