Hi Justin,
Gauges are ordered and will arrive here tomorrow. We'll know more then.
The evaporator from UAC/Rockauto was indeed a quality part: it had 2 rubber plugs and a bolted steel plate to keep it sealed (I heard a big "whoosh" when I removed the plate). A foam seal was present all around the core and around the 2 pipes.
Nonetheless, I removed again the fan motor to get access to the evaporator to see if the seal was doing its job (it's more "feel" as there is nothing to see down there without removing the core itself). Nothing wrong was found (or feeled...).
I did drive the car a bit more, and it is showing an unusual behavior inside the cabin while on the highway. The GM Saabs have a very nice Automatic AC system that was always spot on summer or winter. Keep it in Auto around 21/22 Celsius, and let the system do its magic.
But now, it is a bit too warm inside at idle (with radiator fan speed either on 3 or 4), and too cold while on the highway. I had to creep the dial to 26/27 C to be comfortable in the cabin. Never did that before.
Must be contamination or too much R134 or too much oil/dye in the system... We'll have a better clue in a few days!
