LOL. Remove the turbo for access. Just kidding.
It's a miserable PIA job that I don't try to sell until it is absolutely needed.
Almost no room to get the thermostat housing out and then if it is lots of gasket material left on the block, you need to have all kinds of angled scrapers to get everything off and working with a flash light and mirrors to see.
So it depends of your skill level and tools if you should tackle this. If you have done the oil pressure sensor, P/S pump or belt and tensioner, you are almost there in skill level.
When all heat shields are removed. Hidden bolts for lower radiator hose pipe and rear heater pipe that has to be removed before housing can get removed. That's about it. And yes, find the magic twist to get the thermostat housing out.
