Im in the same boat,
From what I've read. Akebono has strict guidelines as to how much mettalic content goes into their pads. Some "ceramic" branded pads have up 35% metallic content. Turns out my PBR's are really hard pads; very abrasive; and they should since they sport Kelvar (Kevlar?) as one of the components. I paid $200 for rotors and am very apprehensive about putting them on. The rotors and OEM brakes as so montrous that I have no problem locking up wheels at any speed, even with 40% up front and 10% rear pads life left...so what's the point? Oh yeah, fade resistance for repeaded stop after stop.
Not sure what I want to do now. I already took them out of their heat "shrink" wrapping so I'm not sure I can return them. (Doh!)
I don't have the room to do the job myself so the cost of pads, rotors and labor adds up to $300 or so; I would hate to do rotors in 15K...
Also, I've read that ceramic pads need time to heat up before acheiveing that effective stopping power. That's also a concern for me as 50% of my trips are < 3 miles.
I'm no expert and I'm getting very mixed reviews. I want my pads to be gentle on the rotors, they don't need to stop the Earths rotation.
