Aftermarket Head Unit with PAC steering wheel controls

Here's the info I have...

"The steering wheel switches are connected to the SID and present informationon the connectors that are active. SID sends information on the buttons to the bus which is then read by the main unit.

SID supplies +5 V to the steering wheel switches via pin 22 and grounds them via pin 9.

The 6 connectors (6 steering wheel buttons) comprise six resistors in series. When a button is pressed, the connector in question is grounded.

When a connector is pressed, the total resistance in the circuit changes, as does the voltage value which SID then reads."

I can list the voltages and resistances for each button if needed.

I would imagine the PAC unit hooks in between the buttons and the SID, analyzes the voltage for a specific button pressing and then has an infrared signal assigned to it from the aftermarket remote so when the PAC gets a voltage signal from the buttons it transmits a corresponding infraded signal to the headunit as if it was coming from the aftermarket remote control.

The signal goes through the bus system when being sent from the SID to the stock head unit but I doubt this is where the signal is intercepted. I would guess the SID no longer gets any kind of signal from the steering wheel buttons once the PAC is installed.

Anyone with knowledge for sure either way, please chime in!
