In four Saabs I have noww owned, the mileage has always gone up over time and what seems to be a 5000 mile break in period on other cars feels like a 50000 mile ordeal on a Saab. My 2002 Aero auto started out on high test, because I was a bit paranoid as to what might happen on lesser octanes, and averaged about 24-25 mpg. Now with 109 K miles on it, I average closer to 29 and typically see 32 on the highway, and sometimes have seen mid thirties. One factor that directly affects mileage and rarely gets talked about is wind. I had a recent trip from northern NH back to my home in the southern part of the state where I was looking at high thirties all the way, and the only possible way this car is going to show that is a good tailwind.
By the way, for a manual trans 2.3l lpt car,30.9 is not at all an unrealistic figure. My 1999 lpt routinely returned mid thirties.
