The fuel gauge in my '03 Aero knows that trick too. I just moved recently and while I was driving the moving truck, a friend was following behind, driving my Aero. It was at night and suddenly, I noticed my Xenon headlights were no longer behind me. I thought, "Oh crap, what's happened to the car"?!?! The fuel gauge had dropped to empty and the light came on which made my friend exit the interstate looking for a gas station. I had just filled the tank that morning, but he didn't know that & of course, my cell phone was in the trunk of my car...behind me. (I hate moving)

Later, when we caught up with each other, he told me what happened and I had to laugh. I said, you've just been Saab'd...which is kinda like being "punk'd" for the unsuspecting friend helping you move.

From what I've read on this BB, it's likely the fuel tank baffle that's broken loose and causing the sending unit to go haywire. That's on the list for my next indy visit, but it only happens now and then.
