2003 Aero 9-5 112.5K
My doorbell rang this morning at 10:30AM... it was the Fedex guy with my Eeuroparts order! I placed the order yesterday at 3PM... love this place!
So, I drove the land rocket on the ramps, changed into work clothes and got to work....
1. I unscrewed the coolant temperature sensor and coolant came gushing out! Not the small stream most described to me earlier but a full strong stream, think oil drain, all over the engine bay. Full large plastic solo cup worth or more. It was everywhere, engine was cold and I depressurized the system prior to staring as well. I hosed it from the engine bay with water. The whole job took 10 minutes to complete though. After that it was on to the air filter, another 10 minutes. My Rhino extreme ramps are the best $60 I ever spent!
Twenty minutes into the job I was feeling pretty good about myself!
2. I took out platinum NGK 6 plugs and put in the hard driving platinum NGK 7's. I lubed my gas pedal - been squeaking - and took it for a spin; car seems smoother at idle and less "dead zone" on the boost than before. Plugs were pregapped at .9X-.95X in the box and I left them that way. I drive to/from work 15m each way at 85mph with longer weekend drives so I hope these will suit my driving style.
3. While I was under the car I discovered that oil was seeping around my drain plug. I took the plug out, plugged hole and studied the washers. Turns out I got an odd looking, slightly larger yet thinner washer from eeuroparts. No, it wasn't the AT fluid washer. Replaced that as well.
Also, I noticed oil stains around the lower right corner (SE) of the engine block, right up there around where the six bolts are...no idea what this could be so I'll have to do some research.
Two days ago, I took my Continental winters off...stupid me purchased them off ebay, sized 17" so every mount/dismount runs me $160. I only put them on once but will be selling because of the fees involved with this.
Next week, it's the fuel filter (60K interval) and reseating front door window guides because it's open window season and when the door closes it sounds like the glass is going to shatter. The following week, I am doing the entire Zaino process, polish, coat, coat and Zaino for leather.
I love my land rocket. It aging, has a few scuffs and key scrapes but it can still haul arse and I'm enjoying my $15K investment years post purchase... I'd rather walk than be stuck driving a Japanese/Korean applicance.
Here's to everyone having a great spring/summer driving season.
