So last night I was dropping a friend off after a long hike and my oil light started blinking on and off. I am slightly overdue for an oil change (5200 miles and change since I last changed the oil). In checking the oil it was low so I added some more and thought I'd drive home and diagnose the problem. Shortly after dropping off my buddy the oil light came back on and stayed on, shortly after that the car stopped revving past 2 on the RPM meter. I couldn't accelerate, uphill was almost impossible, so I rolled it into a friends driveway that was conveniently close to where I broke down.
In checking the car last night here's what I found. The oil I had put in was gone, the oil was low again, but the oil itself was of a good color and didn't look like it needed to be changed. There is no oil leak. There was a small build up of oil somewhere near the engine but I think that was old from a previous problem and just never had been cleaned off. No burning oil smells at all. I started her up after putting some more oil in her and she revved fine but I was reluctant to put her into drive and test her out until I found out more.
So recently the turbo noise I get when accelerating has developed a sort of whistle. Yesterday before I stopped being able to accelerate It made a really funny noise every time I hit the gas pedal, hard to describe it, but it was way out of the ordinary. The only other problem I've had was a low coolant message a while back, that never came back, and upon checking coolant it seemed to be fine, a little dark and due for a change, but not low. I was thinking since she was revving fine in Park when the turbo won't engage that something is probably wrong with the turbo.
Any help or insight will be infinitely appreciated
So the problem is my car is in the absolute middle of nowhere, well over 200 miles from my mechanic. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? After I told a friend of mine about the problem he suggested it was the blow out valve but I haven't found any resource showing me how to remove it so I can diagnose it.
