I bought a new set of Quatrac 3's in the fall, replacing a worn out set of Nokian RSI snows and bald Avon something-or-other summer tires. I sold my 15" steel rims to a Saab owner from VT.
The Quatrac 3's did quite well in the winter. In powder and packed snow they had good traction. On ice traction was fair, and in slushy conditions they were excellent. All around they were not as good a winter tire as the RSI but that's to be expected (all-season vs. dedicated winter). The Nokian WRG2 is probably a direct competitor, from the tread pattern I'd guess the WRG2 would do better in icy conditions than the Quatracs - but the WRG2 was about $30-40 more per tire.
For dry and wet conditions, and even driving through the recent flooding here in Mass. the Quatrac 3's are superb. Nice ride, not too harsh, and they run very quiet. ~$140 each I think, can't remember exactly. I'm quite pleased with these tires. Now the question is longevity and winter performance as they start to wear. After ~1500 miles there's no sign of tread wear.
