I have an '01 wagon. The gas gauge is intermittently losing touch with reality, sometimes incorrectly reading completely empty, sometimes completely full, etc. The dealer looked at it and said it was the sending unit, but on this model the sending unit could only be replaced if the entire pump was replaced ($800). He didn't recommend doing this, just suggested I keep track of mileage and refill if in doubt. Not sure I trust my own sending unit entirely for this. Any thoughts? TIA
