Second that, I think you have too much refrigerant.
These systems are meant to run with just the right amount. Too much is just as bad as too little. What happens in your system is the ambient freon pressure is within specs, but as soon as the compressor kicks in, it gets pressurized above critical and the compressor shuts down (that's why you get very cold followed by warm and humid). As the compressor stops, the pressure drops down, so when you restart the system it works again. The fact that it sometimes keeps working suggests that you are very slightly over pressurized and the problem might resolve itself soon. I had the same thing happen to me last year when my indy recharged the system. It would go cold and cut out for about 2-3 weeks, then it started working as it should.
