Comments to what's already been posted. Had my Trunk Compt Light Out and dash indicator registered nothing when trunk was open. Followed up with checking the wiring harness portion that goes into the trunk lid. Found one wire (Green) had been severed as described. In fixing this wire, note two things. First, do NOT twist the plastic cap off the lid, it will break. Attempt to wedge it out with a screwdriver or something. It's a snap clip type thing and will pop out fairly easily. Just solder or wire-connector the wire together and pop back in. Second, regarding the plastic strap that holds the safety triangle box in place against the underside of the lid. Again, use a screwdriver to carefully work out the black caps, it is a push lock type thing like the others except this one comes out instead of pushing it in. Takes some patience, but will work itself out.
Anyway, busted wires seems to be common, the harness goes into the lid at an odd angle when closed, so it's not surprising. :)
