We had some ice here this week, and managed to break the plastic tip on one of the fancy windshield wipers on our 09 9-5 SC by striking it on the windshield to get the ice off. I was able to make a temporary fix by taping the end together, but we clearly needed a new blade. These blades are unlike anything I have seen before. The local auto parts store did not list anything for our car. I got a part number from our Saab dealer (12781786) hoping that a local GM dealer might have it in stock. (Our Saab dealer is in Billings, MT, over 400 miles away). The local Chevy dealer found the number in their computer, but said the part was only available from a Saab dealer. The blades are apparently unique to Saab 9-5's from 08-09. So, I ordered a pair from Montana, and they arrived in two days. They are Valeo blades; the box said Made in Germany but the label on the box said Made in USA.
The blades were over $50 for the pair, including shipping. Ouch!
I couldn't figure out how to take the old blades off, but when I saw the new blades, it was apparent how to replace them. You pull down on the tabs, toward the blade, and the whole thing slides off the end of the arm. The new ones just slide on and snap into place. Easy once you do it, but not intuitive for someone used to the hook arm type.
We'll try to be more careful with these blades from now on!
