Well, as I mentioned in the e-mail to you. I have not seen the timing cover leak and find that highly unlikely due to the process and use of anaerobic sealant from factory.
The head gasket though where it mates to timing cover and engine block is a different story.
So if I would to sell a timing cover reseal the car better show me some real (use of explicit) good proof that it is the timing cover and not head gasket alone.
Going in there cleaning like crazy with brake cleaner, adding leak dye to oil and drive the car hot and then check the area and if it is only seeping out right at that common spot, I would not sell a cover reseal.
But then again, if the timing chain is worn beyond specs and you want to be honest about that, you just mention it needs a timing and balance chain kit which in that case would include a head gasket, timing cover reseal and oil pan clean out to the song of $3-4000.00
A few years ago I did the balance and timing chains on my neighbors Jag XK8 V8 and it came up to $2500.00 buddy price and the going rate I heard was $4500.00 at the Jag specialty shops.
