Other tough tasks on path to pump Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 6 Mar 2011 17:17:39 In Reply to: Re: 2002 9-5 water pump replacement, POB, Sun, 6 Mar 2011 14:46:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Disconnecting the small diameter hose connecting to the inlet turbo pipe. It uses a quick release latch but I still snapped the nylon T-fitting trying to get it apart. A better tool for disconnecting these fittings would have helped - don't cheap out and use the plastic disc style tools like I did.
Banjo bolts. I was 2 hours into this job when I got stymied by banjo bolts on the pump housing and turbo that would not release. Lots of PB blast, lots of soak time, but still no go.
After hitting the banjo bolts I packed it in, put it all back together, and hired it done. Of course the PB Blast had another few days to do its job and these same bolts gave my local Indy no problem at all. I was told later that a propane or MAP torch may have done the trick for me.
My final advice is to get instructions, learn the locations of every fastener that must come off, then spray them all with PB Blast two days before doing this job.
