Not too bad. It is actually easier than replacing the heater control valve, at least I think so.
What you do is take out the heater bypass valve. and the new hose set goes from the engine to the fire wall where the aluminum stubs come out.
I found the toughest part was the dumb hose clips that hold the hose ends closest to the firewall.. There is just no space to work in there.
I used vise grips to get them off after I cut the hose off as short as I could. That allowed me to get the vise grips in there. It is all very tight and my hands are not that small. I used good quality worm type hose clamps throughout on the reassembly and the makes it a breeze. I used some long 1/4" drive extensions and a small socket to tighten the clamps by the firewall.
Some here have used Craftsman Cable Operated Hose Clamp Pliers
| Sears Item# 00947390000 | Model# 28650-998 that cost $40 and they seem to work well......I almost ran out and got a set when doing this job, but stuck to it and finally got the clamps off.
do a search on this site. others have done the Mackay change over as well.
Like I said, I bought a full set of hoses for less than $80 and redid everything while I was at it and got rid of the pesky bypass valve.
