As I mention above I doubt it is the contact of sliders being the culprit.
But try this next time you have a no crank scenario.
With you left hand, turn and keep the ignition key in cranking position at all times, do not let go. At the same time, use your right hand and move the gear shifter up and down, up and down and kind of grind it back and forth over Neutral and Park position. If you can make the engine crank over, then it might be the sliders but it could also be that the engine cooled down enough.
If you cannot make it crank over by doing that, you know it is not the sliders because all that movement while at the same time have the circuit loaded with 12V should have made contact at either Park or Neutral.
Keep in mind that as soon as you open the hood, you start the cool down process to where the switch goes back to normal working order all by itself.
