Cheap LRR tires will be full of compromises like hard rubber, good ones will have more expensive rubber compounds and tread designs that optimize MPG without compromising handling and braking performance. I always buy Michelin tires with an LRR rating for my SAAB's and could not be happier, but Continental also makes great LRR-rated tires for European fitment.
In LRR rated I have had the Primacy MXV4 on one 9-5 (sold but the tires are at 58K now), have the Primacy MXM4 on my 9-3SS and also the Primacy Alpin PA3 for winter use. All are exceptional tires in my opinion with great handling, quiet ride and good longevity. The new MXM4 actually has sunflower oil in the compound for better wet traction and they stick like glue here in the rainy, cold Northwest. No compromise, in my opinion.
