No space for air tools, 100% hand tool job Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Fri, 20 Jan 2012 03:13:38 In Reply to: Re: i like the long belt. less noise at low rpm under load., turbostud, Thu, 19 Jan 2012 19:55:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
You have a 2000 MY car so you do not have one big worry, the bolt securing your center pulley will have a hex head. If you are getting pulley noise you will want to replace all three pulleys.
Search on this board for instructions/tips/photos of how to reinstall the center pulley. The sequence you will want to use is: remove top idler pulley, remove tensioner, remove center idler, install new center idler, install new tensioner with new tensioner pulley, install new top idler. This will give you the most working space for accessing the poorly located center idler.

The first time I did this job on my 2000 I needed 30 minutes just to install the center idler, the second time I only needed 5 minutes to install the center idler and almost got it in under one minute! Naturally these times do not includes any of the other steps above, or any prep work prior to the pulley sequence.
