No substitute for snow tires..... Posted by GFW3pedals [Email] (#405) [Profile/Gallery] (more from GFW3pedals) on Fri, 20 Jan 2012 06:56:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Put the GF wagon in the ditch last night. Wearing Kuhmo Ecsta AST "all season" with less than 5K miles on them. 2" of greasy snow, steep hill. I'm not blaming the car, just the tires for their "all season" ratings. I lost momentum going up the hill from about 30 mph to zero and stopped. Got out to see if it was possilbe to back down and then watched the car slide sideways for about 6 feet and then into the ditch. Talk about a sinking feeling. Thankfully no damage at all. My Bro' pulled me out with his '70 something tank International Scout. I'm not so sure I would really trust the car with all snows either, but I know others here will rave about how great the 9-5 is in the snow, I just don't see it, sorry. BTW, have driven in northeast winters for 30yrs. with various other Saabs and a Honda civic ( which was outstanding in the snow ). Wasn't impressed with my 9000 either in the snow. My 96 v4 was like the Honda, very good. I'm parking the 9-5 at the slightest hint of the white stuff from now on, the old Impreza is such great piece of mind, and impeccably capable for winter driving. Not a dig at our Saabs, just my opinion. I actually drove the Saab because it was such a nice day, and I had some errands to run on back roads ...didn't plan for the snow later in the day.
