I didn't think electric fans were supposed to run when the car was at speed. I thought they were only for slow speeds when the a/c was on, or when the car was stopped. It seems the main reason for an electric fan versus a belt-driven fan like cars used to have is that it runs only when needed, reducing drag. If your fans were running with the car moving at speed, with outside temperatures in the mid-80's, that doesn't sound right to me.
Another poster suggested running straight antifreeze/coolant. As far as I know, that's a very bad idea. The bottle shows the proper mix for the temperatures expected, and a 50/50 mix with water is generally fine for all but the coldest weather, even here in North Dakota.
Our 09 9-5 runs fine in hot weather (though we haven't been up any mountains with it recently), so something must be wrong with your car. I hope you can figure it out.
