Think you're putting them on too tight. PureOne oil filters have been perhaps slightly more difficult to remove than the Mobil1 or amsoil filters I use, but nothing to that extent.
Once hand tightened, I put a 1/4 turn extra with the oil filter strap-wrench to ensure secure. Nothing more than that.
And if you're putting oil on the gasket rim prior to install, you'll be fine. Try another type filter as a trial to compare using your existing method.
