I put 11k on my '07 Aero SC this summer with two trips to the midwest and back from Seattle, first trip averaged 22 mpg (had a roof box on as well as two kids and a completely full cargo area) with speeds of 80-90. 2nd trip (5k miles) averaged 29 mpg (including about 700 miles driving around Chicago) - no roof box (even took the rest of the rack off) and it was just myself and the dog, with a 1/2 full cargo area, speeds again 80-90 with higher speeds in places like Montana/Wyoming/ND. I thought this milage was fantastic, considering the size and performance of the car.
Didn't use the cruise much at all, I've found using cruise with a turbocharged car can have a pretty healthy effect on fuel econ. as the turbo is constantly on and off boost (especially on grades) to try and maintain the set speed. When using the throttle manually it can make a pretty big difference slowing down 5 mph up hills to stay off boost.
