I agree with Tim - and I've possibly written some of the comments you might have read. The OG9-3 is a blast to drive, but a c900 is tighter... eg get both cars up to 40-50mph and do a fast S turn (like a "moose avoidance test")... the c900 chassis is way more planted than the og9-3. The 9-5 does that S turn more like the c900 in terms of solidity, but feels less like a go cart and more smooth in doing so... the 9-5 generally feels more luxurious but still very planted, and amazing on the highway... The og9-3 feels fast and a bit loose/squirrely imho (which is fun! I'm not knocking it, though there are upgrades to improve the 9-3 handling)... the c900 feels like a go cart... they are my favourite!
I haven't spent enough time behind the wheel of a NG9-3 to judge, but it feels tighter than the 9-5 and the og9-3. I think the only real reasons to move from a ng9-3 to a 9-5 is for the added space, and maybe because you want an older iron block Saab engine for the nostalgia (or perhaps DIY reasons)... If I had an 08 9-3 that I knew the history of and liked, I would stick with it... imho, by 08 they got most issues fixed and they made the front end look more Saaby than the earlier versions... basically it depends on your needs...
