I can't speak to the standard '08, but my wife's '04 Aero is SO much better handling than my '07 Aero (which had only 20k miles on it when I bought it) or my RIP '02 Aero, which I bought new. And the 9-3 had 50k miles on it when we bought it.
As Roger pointed out, the 9-5 you're looking at could need rear suspension work, and might also benefit from other suspension or bushing work.
If my wife needs drive a couple of hours somewhere, she will take my car. The 9-5 Aero is much nicer tourer than the 9-3 Aero.
And as Snowmobile stated, the 9-5 does has more interior space.
By '07, the 9-5 was pretty sorted out, but I think the same can be said of the '08 9-3.
