Will try that, but at night with folks behind me it does not dim and it did. Pretty sure the switch is shot. It no longer stays in the "IN" position (there is a youtube video of a 9-3 switch doing same thing). Can't recall if there was a dim pilot light or not. If I can open it, I put a jumber over the switch or bring leads out and mount a switch on the front. Failing that, I'll do the salvage search.
On a weekend, I'll pull it and see if I can open it. I found a company that claims to service mirrors (youtube video) - they showed a BMW glass with bubble inside and they replace the glass sandwich, so it has to open somehow (or break).
