Volvo too... Posted by Larry West [Email] (#1140) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Larry West) on Wed, 27 Mar 2013 05:54:23 In Reply to: BMW Owners..., Stephen Goldberger, Wed, 27 Mar 2013 05:01:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'd never heard of an "oil trap" till I bought my first Volvo a couple years ago. For Volvo, it is also a fairly normal maintenance item, along with a "flame trap" that goes in the breather line to the aforementioned trap.
Of course, even though everything else on a Volvo red block is easy to get to and work on (except the AC compressor, whose bracket was designed in the Swedish version of Hades...), not so much the flame trap, requiring the removal of the inlet manifold to exchange the thing...
I've always wondered exactly what the purpose of it is, seeing as Saab 4 cylinder motors got on fine without one for most of their existence, yet it has been on that other Swede's motors seemingly forever...
