If your manual trans 9-3 see high stress i'd stick to a synthetic fluid. But for lower speed daily commuting it might be alright.
The manual trans fill was Castrol 0063. Now it is the Cruze base Castrol 0402 which lighter weight for fuel economy. Problem with the light weight stuff in older cars is it can get noisey when it's hot. You'll a little drivetrain lash. But I tow other cars with my 9-5 with similar weight and she is still working well.
