In my survey a year or two back, I found the mean value mileage for failed pumps is right around where you are now, so the pump definitely is suspect.

Two options when replacing the pump - a complete assembly or just the pump insert. The complete assembly includes the sender as well as (I think) the check valves, hose nipples, etc. In my case the sender was flaky at full level, dropping to naught and popping back up again until the level was down a bit. Not minding that, I just replaced the pump insert (at 115K, along with the water pump, as preventative maintenance), and the tech might have cleaned the rheostat or knocked a bit of crud loose, because now the sender works perfectly. And FWIW, the water pump was showing signs of leakage.

And yes, the pump can fail to start intermittently. Back in the day people with English cars often carried a brass hammer to whack the Lucas fuel pump as needed.
