Ignition cylinder? Piece of cake Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 22 Jan 2014 15:53:41 In Reply to: Replace Ignition Lock Cylinder in 1999 SE - how hard?, Mark in Marine (MN), Wed, 22 Jan 2014 15:00:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the cylinder in my '08 in January of 2013.
Twist the rubber/plastic cover surrounding the cylinder approximately 10-15 degrees clockwise, then lift off.
Disconnect immobilizer within this cover so you can move it further out of your way. (optional step)
Insert ignition key in cylinder and turn key to OFF, the 12 o'clock position.
Examine the aluminum barrel the cylinder slips into so as to locate a square hole at about the 4 o'clock position.
Insert the short leg of a 3mm hex key, or equivalent, into the square hole, aim the short leg toward the 2 or 3 o'clock position, then push inward on hex key to depress a hidden latch.
If the cylinder doesn't pop upwards due to the spring beneath it, grasp the ignition key and lift the cylinder vertically out of the aluminum barrel while the hidden latch is depressed by the hex key.
Job done, time is 30 seconds.
