My 2003 9-5 AERO does great in the snow with snows all around but is starting to show it's age.
Last July the alternator went a few days before I needed to take a six hour trip so I replaced it myself but got me thinking what if it broke down out of state where would I get it fixed.
I always loved the versatility of the SAAB hatchback starting with my first 99LE Wagonback.
This summer I looked at hatchback and wagon options and went with the Honda Crosstour V6 AWD. It is basically front wheel drive and switches to AWD when the wheel sensors detect slippage. It has been great in the snow with the standard tires and has more than enough ground clearance to handle all the snow in New Jersey this year. Average highway MPG runs 30-31 mpg on regular gas. When there is low demand the engine management system switches from 6 cylinders to 3 cylinders with a six speed automatic. Honda factory parts are far less than the european car options.
Also looked at BMW 3 GT series hatchback but it is rear drive unless you fork out the extra bucks for AWD. We did not want an SUV.
The 9-5 will be used for local travel until one of my grown children needs a car.
I do wish SAAB was still an option after owning 8 of them since 1975 but it's not.
Let us know what you decide.
